BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) — A Bristol man died Thursday after he was hit by a car trying to cross Metacom Avenue.
Officers arrived on scene at about 7:30 p.m. to find a man with visible injuries lying unresponsive in the shoulder of the roadway.
The man – identified as 66-year-old John DeMedeiros – was treated on scene and transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to police.
The initial investigation revealed DeMedeiros was attempting to cross Metacom Avenue in the area of Minturn Farm Road when he was struck by a car traveling southbound.
Police said speed did not appear to be a factor. The driver was identified only as a 71-year-old Bristol woman.
The crash remains under investigation.
