NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — Investigators are looking into the cause of a boat fire that happened Sunday afternoon.

According to the Department of Environmental Management, the fire started around 1:40 p.m. off of Fox Island, north of Jamestown.

The North Kingstown Fire Department and Coast Guard responded to the scene, according to DEM. Fire officials said the fire was put out within minutes of their arrival.

The occupants of the boat safely got off the vessel before the fire department arrived, officials said.

The boat was towed by a salvage company to Cranston for further investigation. At this time, it is unclear what caused the blaze.
