PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A group that oversees college readiness testing in Rhode Island has approved changes to make testing periods and times shorter.

The governing board of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, voted Wednesday on the changes.

PARCC says the testing period will now be consolidated to about 30 days. The testing period had stretched from March to June and included two testing periods.

PARCC says testing times will be reduced as well. It says testing times have been reduced by 90 minutes overall. Now, each test will take about 60 to 90 minutes total, depending on subject and grade level.

Rhode Island is among 10 states and the District of Columbia that adheres to PARCC guidelines.

The changes go into effect next year.
