CONCORD, N.H. (WPRI) — Police believe a Block Island man fell asleep behind the wheel of his pickup truck while driving through New Hampshire, sending him and his female passenger to the hospital.

New Hampshire State Police said the single car crash happened Saturday afternoon just after 4 p.m. on Route 93 in Concord, New Hampshire.

Police said 21-year-old Travis Gallant of Block Island was behind the wheel when his truck veered off the right side of the road, rolled over and struck a tree.

Gallant was extricated from the truck by the fire department.

He and his female passenger were both taken to Concord Hospital with multiple injuries.

A young puppy was also in the truck, but ran from the scene of the crash.

Police said several people attempted to catch the 6-month-old German Shepherd mix named “Loto,” but they were unsuccessful.

Troopers are asking for the public’s help in locating the dog, which was last seen running in an industrial area in Bow, New Hampshire.
