Animal welfare groups benefit from the Rhode Island Foundation grants

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI (WPRI) – The Rhode Island Foundation has announced major grants to benefit local animals.

The $470,000 in grants will go to 28 animal welfare programs across the state, including the RISPCA, The Pawtucket Animal Shelter and the Norman Bird Sanctuary.

The organizations will get funds for everything from helping needy pet owners get their animals spayed and neutered to educating the public about coyotes.

Mystic Aquarium was also given money to help fund their seal rehabilitation and release program.

Since 2010, the program has handed out more than 200 grants to animal welfare organizations totaling 3 million dollars.
