Video Now: Fire Damages West Warwick Triple-Decker

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Nine people were displaced after a triple-decker in West Warwick was damaged in a fire Tuesday, according to a fire official on scene.

Crews responded to West Street around 12:15 p.m. and arrived to find heavy flames coming from the third floor. A battalion chief said it took about an hour for firefighters to get the flames under control.

“All of a sudden, I just heard a big boom and then smoke everywhere, and people were yelling, ‘Is everyone out? Is anyone out? Is anyone hurt?'” neighbor Nicolas Groff recalled.

A cat died in the fire, according to the battalion chief, and two residents were treated on scene for minor injuries.

“It was intense,” Groff added. “Just really thought to myself, ‘I hope everyone is alright and everyone is out of the building.'”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
