PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Due to striking a deal with Dell to run its computer systems, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island said about 80 people will lose their jobs in Rhode Island.

Over the next eighteen months, about 130 BCBSRI employees will shift to become employees of Dell, and after the transition period, 80 employees will be terminated with benefits packages, said spokeswoman Stacy Paterno.

BCBSRI said in a statement it will help their “goal of making healthcare affordable and simple for the residents of Rhode Island.”

As of October, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island employed about 950 people in the state.
