BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) — More than 150 people from across New England will spend their weekend walking to defeat breast cancer.

The annual Glori-Days Walk benefits the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation. Participants will complete a 44 mile trek over the course of three days. The first leg got underway Friday morning at Colt State Park in Bristol, with walkers setting out to complete the first 20 miles of their journey. They’ll add another 15 miles on Saturday, and the remaining 9 miles on Sunday.

“The energy is amazing and the desire to just walk and support others the bonding that happens here is really like no other event that we have,” said Maria Gemma, the executive director of the foundation.

According to the event’s website, $116,000 has been raised so far. Their goal is $150,000.
