PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Thousands of people gathered in downtown Providence Sunday to enjoy the 27th annual CVS Health Downtown 5K.
The event did feature extra Providence police, Amtrak police, and the Special Response Unit to make sure that there were no problems in the wake of violent attacks elsewhere in the US.
“It’s fun to get out and see all the people here and its just a fun atmosphere to get out and about and see the community,” said volunteer Chad Guderian.
Some runners were as young as five, some runners were the world’s best, including six Olympians who just competed in the Rio Games.
Overall, everyone was eager to pump up the endorphins together. “I just think it’s really cool to be strong and fit and healthy,” said runner Amy Weigand.
