NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) – New Bedford’s annual Portuguese festival kicked off Thursday.

This year is the 102nd year of the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament – the largest Portuguese festival in the world.
Feast organizers say the festivities will consist of 10,000 pounds of linguica, 8,000 pounds of pork, cod cakes, and all kinds of Portuguese specialties. There are also five spots for entertainment – the main stage along with four other continuous performances.
Admission is free, but you must purchase tickets for food and drinks. The last day of the feast includes a parade and then a meeting following at 8:00 p.m. at which a committee plans for next year’s feast.
