Police keeping tabs on sex offenders for Halloween

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — There are hundreds of registered sex offenders living across Rhode Island and local police are putting on extra patrols to make sure they don’t pose a problem for children trying to enjoy the holiday.

Police also say parents can take steps to keep their kids safe.

“Monitor what your kids are doing. What houses they’re going to,” said Cranston Police Capt. Russell Henry, Jr. “You should be aware of who’s living around you.”

Henry said in Cranston, residents can check crimereports.com to see a map of Level II and Level III registered sex offenders.

Statewide, you can check out the state’s Sex Offender Registry to see where sex offenders are living in your community.

Henry said it’s a good idea to check all year long, not just during Halloween.

Warwick police will also have extra patrols out to keep an eye on registered sex offenders.
