RI ready for flu season

Health

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — After a shortage of vaccines last year, the Rhode Island Department of Health says it is ready for this flu season.

Officials tell Eyewitness News the state’s vaccine supply is well stocked. Last year’s shortage was brought on after a mismatch between the expected strain of the virus, and what actually was circulating.

Everyone over six months of age is encouraged to get a flu shot. As of October 18, about 91,000 shots have been given by Rhode Island health care providers.

Flu season begins in early October, and can often run through the end of May.
