WORCESTER, Mass. (WPRI) — Two breweries are teaming up to do something special in an effort to raise money for a fallen firefighter’s daughter.
The Wormtown Brewery is working with Westminster-based Wachusett Brewing Company to create a beer in honor of 36-year-old Christopher Roy, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the foundation named after his daughter.
Roy died in December after battling a massive, five-alarm fire in Worcester. He was the single parent of 9-year-old Ava Roy.
“It shows how much they appreciate the job that we do out there they appreciate the sacrifice Chris made,” Worcester Fire Department’s Deputy Chief Martin Dyer said. “This is their way of showing the family that we’re here to support you and I think it’s an absolutely wonderful tribute.”
The beer will be produced in Wormtown, then shipped to Wachusett. It will be on draft in both taprooms, and a limited number of cans will also be available for purchase.
“At the end of the day, this is about the Roy family and what they’re going through and not about Wormtown Brewery or Wachusett Brewery,” Managing partner of Wormtown Brewery David Fields said.
The beer has been rightfully named “Worcester’s Bravest.” The brewery hopes to raise more than $20,000 for the foundation.
Donations to the foundation can also be made directly to the Ava Roy Fund and mailed to the Worcester Fire Department Credit Union at 34 Glennie St. in Worcester.
