Beaver, or groundhog, chews road sign post in Coventry

COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) — What appears to either be a busy beaver or groundhog was caught on camera chewing away at the bottom of a road sign in Coventry.

In a video posted to Facebook by Jeffrey Dalnas, the furry creature can be seen chewing the bottom of a sign for Hill Farm Road.

The sign is located near the large field off of Route 3 where beavers and groundhogs are commonly seen.

In the video, it’s hard to tell whether the rodent is a beaver or a groundhog, which are usually identified by their distinctive tails.

It’s unclear if the Coventry Department of Public Works will remove the sign or replace the post.

This story has been revised to say the sign is located off Route 3 instead of Route 2.
