PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The Narragansett Council of the Boy Scouts of America will be collecting nonperishable food donations on Saturday, Nov. 3, for the 31st Annual Scouting for Food drive.
Scouts went door-to-door in neighborhoods across Rhode Island last Saturday and delivered door hangers to remind residents about the drive. After the donations are picked up, they will be sorted and distributed to the R.I.Community Food Bank and other local pantries.
The food bank’s most needed items include:
- Canned soup, meats and tuna
- Canned fruits and vegetables
- Dried fruit
- Canned nuts and peanut butter
- Tomato sauce
- Nutritious breakfast cereals
- Whole wheat pasta
- Rice
- Canned or dried beans
- Granola bars and other healthy snacks
Nothing perishable or in glass containers will be accepted.
If you received a door hanger, you are asked to put donations in a plastic bag and out on your doorstep by 9 a.m. Saturday.
If you didn’t receive a door hanger but would still like to donate, canned goods can be dropped off at the RI Community Food Bank, your local food pantry, or one of the following locations:
- West Bay Scout Shop: 1276 Bald Hill Road, Warwick, R.I.
- East Bay Scout Shop: 79 Swansea Mall Dr., Swansea, Mass.
