NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — Approximately 700 new jobs will be coming to Rhode Island within the next two years after elected officials and business leaders broke ground on a new meat-processing facility in Quonset.
The new 200,000 square-foot facility, which will be owned by Infinity Meat Solutions, will create 700 jobs in manufacturing, maintenance, supply chain and distribution work.
Infinity Meat Solutions will handle beef, ground beef, pork and prepared meats in their new meat processing facility located in the Quonset Business Park. The plan has been in the works for two years and the new facility is scheduled to open in 2020.
Infinity Meat Solutions will be the second such facility that Retail Business Services has built, with the other being in Pennsylvania.
President of Retail Business Services Roger Wheeler said they picked North Kingstown for the project because of its great industrial park.
“It’s great access to us, all our distribution points, our warehouses and our stores,” Wheeler said. “[Also] because of the partnership that we’ve had with the leadership of Rhode Island to work with us, to make sure that we’d be welcome here, and with the right type of programs in place to support industry. It seemed like a great place to be for us.”
Cargill Protein is consulting on the construction of the facility and managing the site’s operation and workforce. The group says once a management team has been hired, it will begin to advertise its 700 jobs online and at job fairs.
In addition to the groundbreaking ceremony, Retail Business Services and Cargill Protein donated 25,000 meals to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
