Kayla joined the 12 News This Morning team as a reporter and multimedia journalist in March 2021. This Fish is super excited to call the Ocean State home!
She’s no stranger to New England, having spent nearly four years at the ABC & FOX affiliates in Bangor, Maine. There, she anchored the 6, 10 and 11 p.m. nightly newscasts for three years. Kayla reported on a wide range of topics, including the coronavirus pandemic, the murder trial for a man who led police on the longest manhunt in state history, the funeral for a state trooper killed in a freak accident on I-95, President Trump’s 2020 campaign visits, as well as stories that showcased the ‘Heart of Maine,’ a series she created at the station.
Becoming a news reporter was something Kayla dreamed about from a young age, starting when she joined her middle school’s morning announcements program. She was part of the inaugural morning broadcast course at her high school in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. She graduated in 2017 from Penn State University, earning bachelor’s degrees in both broadcast journalism and Spanish. As a student, Kayla interned at WPSU-FM, where she later hosted the show ‘Digging Deeper’ with University President Eric Barron. She had another internship with The Bucks County Courier Times and Calkins Media, where she covered the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. Next, Kayla traveled to Washington, D.C., for an internship with News 4, the local NBC station, and was in the nation’s capital during the 2016 Presidential Election. She also spent one summer studying abroad in Ronda, Spain, and traveled to Panama as part of Penn State’s International Reporting Program.
A native of Northeast Pennsylvania, Kayla grew up in Shawnee-on-Delaware, located in the Pocono Mountains. She loves winter and enjoys snowboarding with her brother and friends. She’s also a runner, having completed a few half marathons, including one in northern Maine in December. Kayla is a people person, so if you see her out and about, say hello!
