Derwin Worrell joined the 12 Sports team as a reporter in July 2023.
He was previously the weekend sports anchor/reporter at WPRI 12’s sister station, WREX-TV in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Derwin was born and raised in Queens, New York. He attended Virginia State University where he earned a bachelor of science degree in health and physical education with a concentration in sports communication. While there, he became one of the voices of WVST sports radio. He did play-by-play and color commentary for the university’s teams.
In 2009, Derwin worked as a freelance news assistant at NY1 News, where he covered just about everything you can imagine in New York City. One of the highlights was the 75th Heisman Trophy ceremony. That same year, Derwin also worked as a sports videographer/reporter at News 12, where he focused on the local sports scene.
In 2015, he became a sports anchor/reporter at the Herald-Mail Media in Hagerstown, Maryland. While there, he covered local sports, as well as a visit from President Barack Obama when he came to speak at a Fallen Firefighters ceremony.
Derwin loves talking and watching sports, especially the NFL. He’s covered NBA, NHL, MLB and NFL games. His goal is to eventually cover the NFL for a sports network.
