Earlier this year, Dr. Javier Montañez was named superintendent of Providence Public Schools, putting him in charge of the entire district where he was once a student.

But as someone who was homeless during high school and ended up dropping out – his journey to get here was anything but ordinary.

In our latest 12 on 12 Digital Original, Mike Montecalvo spends 12 hours with Montañez to learn what it’s like running the state’s largest school district. From going out of his way to connect with students and check on teachers to paying a visit to the park he once called home, Montañez shares with us his day and his inspiring story of perseverance.
