(WPRI) - With the score tied 1-1 in the top of the eighth on Monday in Buffalo, Mauro Gomez and Andy LaRoche smashed back to back home runs, part of a four run inning, and ultimately topped the Bisons 5-1.
The PawSox strung together 5 straight hits against loser Pedro Beato. Each team had scored a single run in the first and that was it until the eighth inning explosion. J.C. Linares and Gomez had two hits apiece. Gomez' homer was his 24th of the year. He had three RBI. Gomez leads the PawSox with 71 runs batted in.
Starter Chris Hernandez was solid for six innings. allowing a run on three hits. Hernandez struck out 7 hitters. Chris Carpenter pitched a scoreless seventh inning and Jose De La Torre went the eighth and ninth to complete the victory. At one stretch in the game, PawSox pitchers retired 21 straight Buffalo hitters. Carpenter, 1-0 earned the win.
The PawSox (67-56) return home for a 9 game, 8 day homestand that starts Tuesday night at McCoy at 7:05 p.m. The first place Scranton Yankees will be the opposition.
