NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — Three-time Grand Slam champion Jennifer Capriati leads the 2012 class of inductees into the International Tennis Hall of Fame this weekend.
The ceremony will be held in Newport on Saturday.
Capriati reached the semifinals of the first Grand Slam tournament she played, the 1990 French Open, when she was 14 years old. She won a gold medal at the 1992 Olympics.
But drugs and other problems sidetracked her, and she temporarily dropped off the tour in the mid-1990s. She returned in 1996 and went on to win the 2001 and 2002 Australian Open and 2001 French Open. She also reached No. 1 in the WTA rankings.
Capriati retired in 2004.
The other inductees are three-time French Open champion Gustavo Kuerten, Manuel Orantes, Randy Snow and Mike Davies.
