Tall Ships on their way to Newport

NiRoPe has quite the busy week coming up. Nick, Ron and Pete Cardi, along with Erin Donovan, Executive Director of Ocean State Tall Ships, which is taking place in Newport this weekend, joined The Rhode Show with more.

The Rhode Show: Nick, July fourth, Cardi’s Furniture is a sponsor of the celebration in Bristol, right?

Nick Cardi: That’s right, we’re proud to be long time supporters of the countrys oldest Fourth of July celebration. Tomorrow, you’ll see our stunt doubles, the cartoon characters in the parade which rolls right in front here down Hope Street. And it’s a lot of fun, so many people come out. The weather is going to be beautiful, and we’re proud to support all the fun events that happen here in Bristol!

The Rhode Show: A wonderful day lined up tomorrow and after that, this weekend is the Ocean State Tall Ships Festival.

Ron Cardi: 17 tall ships are on their way to Newport, Rhode Island as we speak. They’re under sail now, and they’ll be arriving on Thursday and the festival starts on Friday. It’s truly an amazing experience to go see the tall ships. Head over to the website, get your boarding passes, parking passes, so you can come down and enjoy a wonderful day with the family, it only happens once every 3-4 years, so we hope to see everyone down in Newport!

The Rhode Show: Erin, the Tall Ships are the main attraction, but there are some other great events happening as well as a village being set up at Fort Adams.

Erin Donovan: We have 18 bands that will actually be doing two hour concerts all along the waterfront, three different stages. In addition, we'll also have some demonstrations, education exhibits.

The Rhode Show: This is going to be an amazing festival, but Pete, like Ron said, go online today to buy your tickets.

Pete Cardi: That’s right, you know the state, local and DEM police do a wonderful job ensuring traffic flows in and out smoothly. One way they can get a handle on how many people are coming and from where is by getting your tickets online, plus, when you get them ahead of time, you’ll have more time to go aboard the ships, talk with the captains and crews of the ships. It’s truly a learning experience and we’ve been proud to be part of tall ships festivals of the past and once again for this years festival!

The Rhode Show will be broadcasting live in Newport on Friday, so all are invited to join us.
