DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WPRI) -- A Dartmouth man is accused of running over a four-year-old boy while driving drunk.

Dartmouth police said a minivan driven by Pedro Roias, 64, crashed through a fence of a Buttonwood Road home around 3 p.m. Wednesday, and ran over the boy who was playing in the yard.

According to police, one eyewitness said Roias backed out his driveway across the street at high speed, then smashed through the fence. Another eyewitness claimed Roias was so confused, she had to climb through the window of his minivan to shut it off.

Police said Roias was visibly drunk when they arrived on scene.

The boy was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital. Police said he was in good condition Wednesday night.

Roias is scheduled to be arraigned in New Bedford District Court Thursday morning on several charges, including driving drunk and assault with a dangerous weapon.
