PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- A person was thrown from a rollover crash on I-195 Sunday morning but suffered only minor injuries.
State Police Lt. William Jamieson tells Eyewitness News that the crash occurred at 4:35 as the vehicle was taking the ramp to I-195 East from I-95 South. At the merge with the ramp from I-95 North, the driver lost control and struck the bridge rail on the right side of the ramp. There were four people in the vehicle when it rolled over, and a person sitting in the rear passenger seat was ejected.
That person suffered only minor injuries, while the two other passengers complained of pain and were also hospitalized. The driver was unhurt.
The driver told Troopers another car cut him off, causing him to lose control, but no other witnesses stopped to confirm that story. Troopers found no evidence of excessive speed or alcohol use at the scene.
Meanwhile, in Johnston, a driver was hurt in a single-car crash on I-295 North just north of Hartford Avenue.
At 4:33, that driver lost control of his vehicle and swerved off the road, hitting a tree. He was hospitalized for treatment of minor injuries, and Troopers investigating that wreck found no evidence of speed or alcohol there either.
All five people in the two crashes were "very lucky" that their injuries were not more serious, Jamieson said.
