Exeter man strikes police cruiser twice

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - An Exeter man is facing several charges for allegedly failing to stop at a red light and striking a state police cruiser on the passenger door before trying to flee the scene and hitting the cruiser a second time in the back, causing the police vehicle to spin 180 degrees in the opposite direction.
Police say James Hall's vehicle then hit an empty car parked on Broad Street before troopers blocked his path and arrested him at about 1:45 a.m. Saturday.
Tests showed the 46-year-old had alcohol in his body that was almost twice the legal limit. He was arraigned at police barracks and was released pending a future court appearance on charges of drunk driving and leaving the scene of accident.
Hall could not be reached for comment.
