EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A grassroots movement called "Project 106" is on a mission to save after-school athletic programs at East Providence middle schools.

Budget issues forced the school department to cut the programs.

Project 106 held an informational public meeting at the Weaver Library Tuesday night.

A board of seven East Providence parents started the movement, which has received the support of hundreds more in the school district who petitioned the budget commission.

Project 106 is trying to raise the $106,000 necessary to save middle school sports in the city.
