PORTSMOUTH, RI (WPRI)- Baseball is a popular summertime sport. However, these high temperatures can take its toll on little leaguers.
The Portsmouth 10 and Under All-Stars have had to endure temperatures exceeding 90 degrees. These scorching temps are making things tough on the diamond.
"I played this morning and it was really hot. At the end I was like sweating from head to toe", said Portsmouth Little Leaguer Sam Stamoulis.
The extreme heat is not only uncomfortable, it can be downright dangerous. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can cause heat-related illnesses and even death.
Health experts say if children must be outside they should wear sun block, drink plenty of water and avoid strenuous activity.
While the kids say they can handle the heat, they hope everyday isn't like this.
