This weekend WPRI 12 and FOX Providence are proud to support The Cystic Fibrosis Cycle for Life Ride.
Brooke Humm, whose five month old daughter Elizabeth Rose is battling Cystic Fibrosis, and Philomena Santos-Higgins from The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, joined The Rhode Show to talk more about the ride.
Brooke said when her daughter was born on March 31, 2012 she was already fighting for her life.
With a bowel obstruction, she needed emergency surgery. Weeks later she was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.
Brooke said that she and her family are saddened by the diagnosis and concerned for her well being, but they are continually amazed by her resilience and say she is truly an inspiration to everyone.
Life expectancy for Cystic Fibrosis patients is only about 37 years old and the family wants to be sure that Elizabeth doesn't miss life's milestones, like her high school and college graduation, wedding and everything that goes along with life.
Brooke says her family and friends are determined to make sure she is well.
Cystic Fibrosis Cycle for Life Ride is a 62 or 25 mile route set at Sakonnet Vineyards in Little Compton, RI.
They want to stress the importance of public support for the event and how the money raised goes to help children like Elizabeth and her family.
