"A Christmas Carol" will be premiering at Trinity Rep in Providence for it's 36th year.
NiRoPe, Nick, Ron, and Pete Cardi from Cardi's Furniture, joined The Rhode Show, along with Tyler Debrowsky Associate Art Director at Trinity Rep and Director of this year's show, to talk about the event.
The Rhode Show: Before we talk about the play, Nick, you're starting to see many people come in for new dining rooms.
Nick Cardi: That's right, lots of people are realizing that they're hosting the big meal this year: Thanksgiving, and now the pressure is on to get the dining room set that will be both functional and stylish. We have every style, every size, and we can even customize your furniture to be exclusive to you. One of the most important components is a table pad - every table needs on. Protect your investment so you can enjoy your new dining room furniture for Thanksgivings to come!
The Rhode Show: Sounds good! Of course Thanksgiving leads us right into the Christmas holiday and brings us to that long standing tradition of Cardi's furniture and Trinty Rep!
Ron Cardi: Once again, Cardi's Furniture is proud to sponsor this along with our friends at Amica and B101. The actors, actresses, and staff at Trinity Rep do an amazing job. It's a world class theater. They change the way it's performed each year, so if you saw it last year, 10 years ago, or 36 years ago, you won't be seeing the same show! Take my advice: Get tickets now. This show has sold out every year for years. It's a great time to enjoy a night in Providence, see the show, enjoy a local restaurant, and start a new holiday tradition!
The Rhode Show: Tyler, as Ron said, it changes every year. You're the Director this year, what secrets can you let us in on?
Tyler Debrowsky: Last year we set it in the 1950s, so it was kind of a Mad Men Christmas Carol. This year, we wanted to keep it relatively traditional; one, because, I like it traditional, and it's also Charles Dickens 200th birthday this year. So, we wanted to honor him and his story that way. But, there's lots of fun surprises. We wanted to do a show that kids seeing a piece of theater for the first time would really come away thinking it's magical and fun. So, hopefully we'll succeed.
The Rhode Show: And I understand the set was designed by a very notable person this year.
The Rhode Show: Pete, the commercial you guys have to spread the word is hilarious.
Pete Cardi: Tyler, Curt, all the team over at Trinity are just wonderful to work with. We've made a few different commercials with them over the years. This is one of our favorites! We hope everyone will join us at Trinity. We're excited to see the kids in the play that were cast at our showroom in September during the open casting call! But you have to get your tickets now.
