NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) - Eyewitness News was on the scene of breaking news in New Bedford, Mass. Saturday morning where police recovered a body in the water.
New Bedford Fire and Rescue said they were at 8 Hassey Street in New Bedford behind Bergies Seafood Inc. Saturday morning for reports of a dead body in the water.
Employees at Bergies Seafood found the body and reported it to authorities just before 8 a.m.
Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter's office said that the body of 24-year-old Christopher Martin from New Bedford was pulled from the water and is now in custody with the medical examiner's office where an autopsy will be done sometime this weekend.
Foul play has been ruled out and at this time the cause of death appears to be an accidental drowning.
