JAMESTOWN, R.I. (WPRI)- The Sakonnet River Bridge is set to begin shortly. In anticipation of the tolls, thousands of Rhode Island residents have purchased new E-Z Passes.
Some E-Z Pass customers have been overcharged for their accounts.
Eyewitness News has learned The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority charged incorrect fees to 128 new accounts.
David Darlington, the chairman of the Turnpike and Bridge Authority released a brief statement about the accidental charges saying, "We sincerely regret the errors and are correcting them. It's unfortunate and we are doing our best to avoid mistakes as we set up new accounts and distribute transponders".

Darlington attributes the incorrect fees to a computer error. He says new accounts are being processed and some were processed and charged twice.
The duplicate accounts are being deleted and credits are being issued.
Since June 4, the Rhode Island Bridge and Turnpike Authority has sold more than 12,000 E-Z Pass transponders.
Staff at the Turnpike and Bridge Authority will also be calling customers who were overcharged to personally apologize for the inconvenience.
