SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) – The plant with the largest flower on Earth bloomed on Sunday, for the first time since arriving at the University of Rhode Island.
After days of waiting, the corpse flower bloomed, releasing a distinct smell of decomposing flesh.
The plant, named Audrey, has been housed at the Matthew Horridge Conservatory since 2009, but did not bloom until Sunday.
The plant only blooms every four to six years, and when it does it only lasts for 24 hours.
Yesterday was its first bloom since it arrived on the Kingston campus three years ago.
