NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) -- A Newport Coast Guard Cutter will be deploying 2,300 miles up to the Arctic on Thursday to work with the Canadian Navy, Canadian Coast Guard and parts of the Danish navy on maritime safety and security operations.
Coast Guard Cutter Juniper will be taking part in Operation Nanook, near Baffin Island and areas off of Greenland's west coast, according to a news release Wednesday from the U.S. Coast Guard.
The cutter and crew will be participating in law enforcement missions, as well as conducting ice operations.
Juniper has a crew of 44, including eight officers and 36 enlisted personnel.
