PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Police in Providence are investigating multiple accounts of violence that all took place after the Dominican Independence Day Festival in the Capitol City.
According to the Providence Journal , police are now looking into a shooting and two stabbings from Saturday night.
The first stabbing was reported after 14-year-old Anneurys Prado walked into Hasbro Children's Hospital for a stab wound after being stabbed in his buttocks.
Prado told police he was at the Dominican Festival in the area of Broad Street and Thurbers Avenue when he was wounded.
The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. when police responded to Broad Street and Lenox Avenue where an 18-year-old told police he had been shot after a large fight broke out.
Jeremiah Durret of Cranston said he was leaving the Dominican festival with his cousin when the fight broke and they heard gunshots. He suffered a gunshot wound to his ankle and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated.
Approximately 15 minutes after the shooting happened, patrol officers at the festival saw a man carrying what they believed to be a gun in the area of Broad Street and Corinth Street.
Those officers recognized him and were able to identify the man as 18-year-old Angel Callejas who had been previously been arrested in July on charges of carrying an unlicensed pistol and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Major Thomas Oates with Providence Police said Callejas tried to conceal the weapon and attempted to run as he saw the officers approaching him.
After a minor struggle, police arrested him and took a .32-caliber Smith & Wesson pistol into custody. Callejas was again charged with carrying an unlicensed pistol and was arraigned in court on Monday.
Later that evening, another patrol officer in the area witnessed and reported a second stabbing victim stumbling along on Hamilton Street and then collapsing.
Upon assisting the individual, the officer noted he had been stabbed multiple times.
16-year-old Roberto Santos was taken to Rhode Island Hospital by rescue to be treated, but issued no formal complaint with police.
Finally, just after 10 p.m. police arrested a second male for possessing a gun without a license.
22-year-old Garrick Carvalho was taken into custody after two patrolmen noticed him trying to hide what appeared to be a weapon in his pants pocket. The officers later saw the butt of a gun sticking out of his pocket and he was taken into custody.
Carvalho has been charged with carrying a .380-caliber pistol without a license and was arraigned in court Monday.
Board is being restructured less than two years after it was created.
