BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (WPRI) – Two people are confirmed dead following a serious two-car crash on Route 102 in Burrillville.
According to police, it happened Thursday afternoon on Route 102 in the Glendale section of town.
While on scene Police Chief Stephen Lynch told Eyewitness News a white Ford Focus was traveling north and a minivan was traveling south when the two vehicles collided shortly after 3:30 p.m.
Three people were in the white car and one was in the van. According to police the victims were a male and a female in their 20s and both were in the white car, while the third person in the same car sustained minor injuries. The driver of the van was taken by med-flight with non life-threatening injuries.
According to a Tweet from the Chepachet Fire Department, the Jaws of Life were requested for a head-on car accident and Lynch confirmed two medical helicopters responded to the scene.
Police said a serious crash happened on this stretch of road just last week. The speed limit is 50 mph, and police believe it may have been a factor in the crash.
Lynch said that the circumstances of how they collided is still being investigated at this time.
