FALL RIVER, MA (WPRI) - A 29-year-old woman has been charged with wanton or recklessendangerment of a child and permitting substantial injury to achild. Police say Kelly O'Brien used a hair iron to burn her4-year-old foster son's arms. The burns were so severe that the boyneeded skin graft surgery.
The Herald News of Fall River reports that police began theirinvestigation last week. They were informed of the case by doctorsat Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence.
The child suffered third-degree burns to the right upper arm andsecond-degree burns to the left upper arm. Doctors said that theburndid not appear to be self inflicted.
