MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WPRI) - The Dutra family knows all about the coyote concerns across Aquidneck Island.
Their dog, Harry, was recently attacked and killed by a pack of coyotes near their Middletown home.
The Dutras were among hundreds of local residents who gathered for a meeting Tuesday night, to discuss ways to deal with growing coyote population.
Many say they are seeing the animals more often, and they are becoming more aggressive.
"They are not afraid of humans anymore," said Linda Dutra, "They are bold, coming up to homes and we are living in fear."
At the meeting, officials advised resident to not feed the animals and to keep a close eye on their pets and young children.
A program has also been launched to pick up road kill in the area, which will take away one of the animals' food sources.
An auction is being held for the intellectual property of former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling's bankrupt video game company.
Police are searching for a suspect after a woman was robbed and carjacked Tuesday night.
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free the driver from the vehicle, but said her injuries were not serious.
Police said Will Girard was traveling more than 100 miles per hour when he struck another vehicle at the intersection of Routes 6 and 94 in Foster.
A murder trial is expected to begin Wednesday, but without its potential star witness.
