URI police: 13 cars vandalized within two week span

KINGSTON, R.I. (WPRI) -- The University of Rhode Island Police Department is investigating after they say 13 cars were vandalized within the past two weeks.

URI police said the cars were parked at different locations around the Kingston campus. The incidents have been occurring since April 4.

According to URI police, Swastikas and pornographic shapes were carved into the cars. Officers have been reviewing surveillance footage and have been conducting frequent patrols of the parking lots, but have no leads on who is responsible.

"The university condemns all forms of vandalism, but the hateful and offensive nature of these incidents deserves the strongest repudiation," URI said in a statement.

Anyone who is aware of suspicious activities on the Kingston campus should contact URI police at (401) 874-2121, or send anonymous tips to (401) 874-TIPS.
