NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Police are investigating after someone opened fire in what is usually a quiet neighborhood, located near an elementary school.
The incident happened around 4 a.m. on Thursday, when multiple gunshots were fired at a parked car and house on Cooper Street in North Providence.
"I was up at 4 a.m. getting ready for work when I heard several shots, I ran over to the window and saw several youths running up the street," said neighbor Frank Rocha.
The family who lives in the house said two bullets grazed the bed where their teenaged son was sleeping. Several bullets also shattered car windows.
The family told Eyewitness News they don't know why someone would shoot at their home.
The shooting took place within 100 yards of the Marieville Elementary School on Morgan Avenue.
Police are investigating the incident.
