Rock ‘n’ Roll Providence Half Marathon
The race will once again start and finish in downtown Providence near the State Capitol Building on Gaspee Street, and travel past many of Providence’s major landmarks such as the Roger Williams Memorial and the Athenaeum Library. Runners will get a brief tour of three of the city’s major universities, and travel along Swan Point, Blackstone Park and India Point, with scenic views of the Seekonk River.
The event will welcome 5,000 participants.
Runners will be coming from 47 states and 10 countries.
More than 60% are women.
2/3rds of the runners are from outside the state of Rhode Island.
Charities have raised more than $268 million through the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series since its inception in 1998.
There are five Official Charities participating in Providence in 2012 with over 100 charity participants running for a cause.
The American Cancer Society’s Team DetermiNation has raised over $20,000 through the 2012 Rock ‘n’ Roll Providence Half Marathon.
Twenty-one local, live bands playing along the course at 13 Entertainment Stages.
Local cheerleading squads line the route competing in the Spirit on the Course competition.
Karmin will headline the post-race concert at the finish line festival.
