Apple's iPhone takes number one spot

(FOX Providence) - As the end of the year begins to approach websites are compiling their "most searched" lists from the year. According to Yahoo! the top search term of 2011 wasn't a person or a news event. It was a technological marvel.

The iPhone was leader of the pack this year beating out a reality TV divorce and America's most wanted terrorist. In the 11 years that Yahoo! has compiled its annual list of top searches, Playstation 2 is the only other device to have captured the top slot.

Coming in at number two on the most searched list is Casey Anthony. Many people were outraged by the not-guilty verdict that was returned in the case of this Florida woman, who was accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter. Others thought the incessant coverage was media-manufactured hysteria.

In at number three was a person we're still hearing a lot about right now, Kim Kardashian. Her reputation took a hit when she filed for divorce just 72 days after a very expensive wedding. Two other pop icons rounded out the top five, at number four is Katy Perry. At number five is Jennifer Lopez. Lindsay Lohan was not far behind coming in at number six.  American Idol claimed the number seven spot and Jennifer Aniston number eight.

Rounding out the top ten were a couple of the biggest news stories from the year. The earthquake in Japan is number nine. Osama Bin Laden is number 10.
