Green dry cleaner could improve health

Green and Cleaner puts new twist on old errand

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (FOX Providence) - A business that is catching on across the country has now arrived in Rhode Island.

Whether you're looking to improve your health, the health of the environment, or simply put a new twist on an old errand, this local business says the next stop you make, should be at their shop.

At first, Green and Cleaner looks like any other dry cleaning operation. But the first thing a visitor will notice is the lack of that certain smell.

"We do not use toxic chemicals in any of our cleaning," said Stephanie Isenberg, owner of Green and Cleaner .

Isenberg and her husband Jack have a wealth of experience in sales, fashion, and other arenas. But they cashed it all in to run a business they feel is the wave of the future.

"Everything is computerized meaning the temperature is different for each fabric, the mechanical action is different. The drying action is different," said Isenberg.

And while this cleaning process can go head-to-head with a traditional dry cleaner, the Isenbergs say their benefits beat the competition hands-down.

Since their operation is water-based, there's no chemical run-off as there is in other operations.

"It would go in the water table, the soil and the air," added Isenberg.

However, the biggest impact could be on your health, because Green and Cleaner says they don't use any of the chemicals used in a traditional cleaning process. Such as, chemicals that have been linked to cancer and other diseases.

Different throat diseases, liver cancer. Basically it goes into your system like any chemical."

Isenberg is referring to Perchloroethylene . It's just one of several powerful, and some say hazardous agents used in the traditional dry cleaning process. In fact, some health experts say the single-most powerful thing people can do for their health is to air out their dry cleaning before wearing it.

But with Green and Cleaner , there's no need. So with virtually no effort on the part of the consumer, the Isenbergs believe every new customer is helping to build a big change in their environment, and their health.

Green and Cleaner boasts an art gallery at their business, some of which is created by their own employees. They're located on Elmgrove Avenue in East Side of Providence.
