VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - VCU's extraordinary march to the Final Four and the coach who led them there have inspired a song.
A Virginia Beach singer-songwriter went into the studio this week and produced the song, "Shaka's Got 'Em Believing (VCU Final Four Song)." VCU's coach is Shaka Smart.
Nigel Holland tells The Virginian-Pilot the song performed by his group, the Right On Band, borrows the melody from "Hooked on a Feeling," a 1968 song by BJ Thomas.
It also samples the 1974 version by the Swedish group Blue Swede and its "ooga chaka" chant.
Holland posted the song on YouTube, including a clip of Smart and the team in action.
VCU plays Butler on Saturday in Houston.
