CRANSTON, R.I. (FOX Providence) - Our TV Maitre d' visits a Johnston family restaurant, where great home-style cooking and alot of local color has become a daily ritual. Here's Joe Zito with this week's Quick Bites:
Joe Zito:
"I like to call the Lighthouse Restaurant a 'Beacon in the Day' on busy Hartford Avenue. As busy as folks get in our hustle and bustle world of fast-food drive-thru's and cappuccinos, people still love a good-old fashioned family restaurant, serving breakfast and lunch... with food made just the way you would cook it at home."
Mike Arena (Owner):
"That comfort feeling of home cooking. You can just come in, hang around, eat good food, talk to the waitresses or myelf or Dave, or anybody who wants to chat."
Joe Zito:
"That's the mantre here for owners Mike and Dave, who also own the legendary Sea Plane Diner in Providence, and popular Amanda's Kitchen in Pawtucket.
It's a simple recipe... find nice people to serve good food to other nice people in a clean, friendly environment."
Mike Arena (Owner):
"Well, the Lighthouse Restaurant is special, because of the atmosphere. You know, it's a family-friendly environment, you can bring your kids here and not have to worry about them behaving or they can run up to the aquarium, look at the fish, it's a laid back atmosphere."
Joe Zito:
"Sundays in the spacious back room, there's live music to enjoy breakfast with, and of course the menu is loaded with all types of great stuff. I got my hands on the stuffed french toast by the way, along with a healthy dose of local color."
Dick and Jean DiMeo (Regular Customers):
"It's a great community restaurant. It's local, in Johnston. We had breakfast here this morning. The service was unbelievable. The food was great. The coffee was hot."
Joe Zito:
"For The Rhode Show, I'm TV Maitre d' Joe Zito with this morning's Quick Bites."
