AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) - A Texas man is behind bars after he reportedly fled the scene of a crime, leaving behind his children and pregnant wife -- who is expecting their 10th child.
Paul Andre Williams, 42, is charged with failure to stop and render aid, accused of running from the scene of a crash after running through a red light and hitting another car.
Deputies said he hit a car on Johnny Morris Road in Austin on Wednesday and then ran from the scene.
He left his two children and pregnant, common-law wife behind -- along with another passenger -- in the 1999 Dodge Stratus. As he got out of the car, police said he threw out beer cans.
After the crash, deputies said Williams called the passenger to check on his pregnant wife.
Investigating deputies heard the conversation, which was placed on speaker phone. Williams reportedly asked the passenger, "Did y'all give them my name?"
Investigators said they used the phone call to identify Williams and arrested him later when he went to visit his wife at University Medical Center Brackenridge.
Bond was set at $10,000.
