McCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (CNN/WPSD) - A Kentucky father is behind bars after he allegedly left his baby inside an oven overnight.
Police say Larry Long smoked marijuana at his work Sunday night before going home. Once he got back to his house, Long and the child's mother, Brandy Hatton, drank about a fifth of whiskey.
When Hatton went to bed, Long says he began to hallucinate. And that's when he placed the five-week-old baby in the oven.
Hatton reportedly woke up to the sounds of the child crying, and found the infant in the oven with the door slightly ajar.
Fortunately, the baby was not harmed and has now been placed with a relative.
Police say Long told them he believes the marijuana was laced with something.
Long has been charged with first degree wanton endangerment. He is being held on bail.
