The infamous Borden murders have been an unsolved crime for over a century. Now, the Lizzie Borden Story is told on stage, and it's told from Lizzie's perspective.
In august of 1892, Lizzie Borden became the prime suspect in the murders of her mother and stepfather. They were brutally killed with an axe in their Fall River home. The crime led to a trial that garnered attention from all over.
"So, it was the trial of the century. It was like the OJ trial of her day, it was you know, huge. And people came from all over the world, reporters and womens' groups you know to back her up. Now she was acquitted, but most people, you know, don't realize that," said Jill Dalton, the writer and star of " Lizzie Borden Live ".
The scene of the crime was at the Borden home , which is now a bed and breakfast .
The brave and curious have come from all over to sleep in the Borden's bedrooms. It also houses artifacts from the crime, and visitors can try to solve the crime.
In the play, we hear Lizzie's perspective.
"So for the first time she really tells her side of the story and has her day in court. But as Lizzie, I play all the different characters as well, from all the different police officers to the stepmothers to Emma. But, it's all done through the prism of Lizzie Borden. How Lizzie saw those people, according to me, as the writer," continued Dalton.
The Borden murder case is an unsolved crime drama that would still make headlines today.
"But even today if something happened like that and a woman was accused of that sort of double murder, it would be huge today."
But will the murder mystery ever be solved?
The award-winning performance is one night only, Saturday, October 31st at 8 p.m..
