Gas stations running on empty pre-storm

Residents gas up before snowfall hits

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Southern New England drivers have been lining up to fill up ahead of Friday's storm.

Area residents have even been getting extra gas to fuel their snow blowers and generators.

"I think a lot of people are just topping off and trying to save whatever gas they have. They just want to be sure they have a full tank", said Jean MacLaughlin of Warwick.

Eyewitness News found one gas station where nobody was getting gas. Thursday night all four pumps at the Cumberland Farms on Warwick Avenue were out of service.

Other gas stations scrambled to keep up with increased demand and long lines.

However, not everyone got stuck waiting at the pump.

"I got my gas yesterday because I wanted to avoid what's going on over here today and I wanted to just make sure I was prepared early", said Paul Waple of Fall River.

Snow is expected to hit our area Friday morning. Experts say if you haven't filled your tank yet, make sure you do it before the snow hits.
