Mayor: Town's snow removal unacceptable

Meeting being held Wednesday night to discuss

NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Slightly warmer temperatures mixed with rain helped to melt some of the snow left behind from the blizzard, but some town leaders are frustrated and wonder why it took so long to clean up the streets in the first place.

Leaders in North Providence have called a special meeting to discuss the poor cleanup response to the Blizzard of 2013.

They will be voting on procedures, communication, and department roles - in order to better prepare for future emergencies.

The meeting comes after many roads in the town were left unplowed for days after the snow storm hit and is expected to draw many upset residents.

North Providence Mayor Charles Lombardi told Eyewitness News  that he understands their frustration.

"The removal process of this storm was unacceptable to me. We didn't hit every road in the town prior to the two or three inches and hour and at that point in time it just got away from us."

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m. at North Providence Town Hall.
