WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - The impending snow storm is still nearly a day away, but it's impact was already being felt at T.F.Green Airport in Warwick Tuesday. Nearly a dozen flights were cancelled or delayed because of winter weather affecting other parts of the country.
As the storm approached, airline and security agents worked to move passengers through the airport quickly, hoping to get them out before the snow arrives sometime Wednesday morning. Many airlines even amped up staff and allowed free flights changes.
Steve Duvatro of East Providence has already had his Miami vacation delayed once and is now hoping to fly out before the storm strikes.
"We had some mechanical delays on one airline and by the time we got that squared away, we would have missed our connecting flight," Duvatro said. "We have arrangements for tomorrow and were hoping to get out today, but that's not looking likely."
Brenda Gregory of Bristol is hoping to make her connecting flight to Baltimore, that will eventually get her to Palm Beach.
"Our flight's at two, so we should be able to get out of there by then," Gregory said.
Many passengers hope compromise and patience will be their ticket out of Rhode Island.
"They're going to get us somewhere down south in Florida and we'll have to drive from there," said Paul Lanouette of Eastham, Mass., who's flight has already been delayed.
